Proposal due date : Friday 28th May

Project Length : Start of semester 2 2010 - End of semester 1 2011

Your project will be assessed on the extent to which it:

  • Draws from relevant school data - qualitative and quantitative, to identify area/s for improvement
  • Plans to use relevant data to monitor and evaluate ongoing progress
  • Uses an action learning process ie: provides a plan with clear goals and targets and with action steps to address the identified need
  • Includes critical reflection on teachers’ current classroom practice
  • Is consistent with the theoretical basis of the Archdiocesan Literacy and Numeracy Position
  • Embraces the use of ICLT / multiliteracies.

In order to complete your application, consider the following guiding questions:


What is your area of concern?
How reading is taught and why it is more than reading the right words on the page (sight words, sounding out, etc) to become better at understanding the text and developing good reading comprehension.

Focussing highly on sightwords in early years at present
Poor reading comprehension and understanding of text



· What data do you have to justify this focus – qualitative, quantitative, research?
· What open ended question/s do you want to answer by doing action research?
How do I better teach reading. What experiences make a better reading comprehender? How do I provide these in my classroom
· How is your project consistent with the theoretical basis of the Archdiocesan Literacy and Numeracy position?
